Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has praised the resilience, courage, and sacrifices of mothers across Nigeria and around the world, describing them as central to the stability and future of society.
In a message to commemorate Mother’s Day, the First Lady said mothers play an indispensable role in nurturing families and shaping the next generation, noting that their daily sacrifices often go unrecognised.
Mother’s Day, celebrated in March in many countries, honours motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society.
In her message marking the 2026 celebration, Tinubu described mothers as the “silent architects of the nation’s future” and the enduring heartbeat of every home.
“Today, I honour and celebrate every mother across Nigeria. Your love, care, and sacrifices do not go unnoticed,” she said.
She noted that beyond the widely recognised sacrifices associated with motherhood, it is often the quiet and everyday acts of care that truly reflect a mother’s devotion.
“Beyond the big sacrifices, it is the small, quiet moments that truly define a mother’s love. On this special day, we carry those moments in our hearts and say thank you for the warmth and love you selflessly give,” she added.
The First Lady also urged mothers to continue guiding and mentoring children, stressing that the values they pass on will shape future generations.
According to her, mothers play a vital role in teaching discipline, wisdom, and strength to young people, which in turn helps strengthen society.

“I implore our mothers to continue to teach and guide the children, passing down wisdom and strength that would benefit future generations,” she said.
Tinubu also expressed hope that parents would live long enough to witness the impact of their efforts in the lives of their children and grandchildren.
“May we all live to enjoy the fruits of our labour over our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren,” she added.
She concluded her message by wishing mothers across the country a happy celebration and recognising their enduring contributions to family life and national development.
