Supporters of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, have launched a fresh mobilization drive in Akwa Ibom State, signalling an early effort to rebuild momentum and strengthen grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The mobilization, led by the Obidient Movement, recently moved to Uyo and is now being channelled into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which supporters describe as their political vehicle for the next presidential contest.

From passion to political structure

National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, said the renewed push reflects Obi’s directive to strengthen political organisation at the grassroots and prevent a repeat of the challenges experienced during the 2023 elections.

“This is Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as we continue to mobilize into the ADC. The strong words of His Excellency Peter Obi are very clear: we will not allow a repeat of what happened in the 2023 election. In 2027, you will either count the votes correctly or you will be counted. We must all be ready to defend our votes,” he said, while urging supporters to organise ward meetings, strengthen polling unit structures, and expand mobilisation across communities.

He described the effort as a shift from emotional enthusiasm to deliberate political strategy, adding that the movement’s broader mission extends beyond a single election cycle. “The time has come to move from passion to structure, from structure to strategy, and from strategy to victory. The Obidient Movement was never just about an election. It is about a new Nigeria — disciplined, competent, compassionate, and accountable. It is about restoring dignity to leadership and power to the people,” Tanko said.

ADC alignment signals early battle for 2027

Tanko also emphasised that aligning with the ADC is part of a calculated political strategy aimed at converting grassroots support into electoral success, while calling on supporters to intensify participation rather than remain passive.

“Let no one sit on the sidelines. Let no one say, ‘My voice does not matter.’ Let no one underestimate the power of a united people. When we move together, we are unstoppable. When we organise, we win. When we vote, we transform nations,” he said, describing the mobilisation as a defining phase in the movement’s political evolution.

He added that the movement remains confident of securing victory in 2027, stating that its growing organisational strength would position Obi strongly for another presidential run.

The renewed activity highlights how Obi’s supporters are attempting to institutionalise their movement and build durable political structures well ahead of the next election cycle.

By focusing on grassroots organisation, political alignment, and early mobilisation, the movement appears determined to transform its widespread popularity into a more coordinated and structured campaign capable of influencing the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.
