Obi Wants To Serve, Not Desperate Like Some Politicians — Chimamanda

 Acclaimed author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on August 04, 2025, defended Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate and ADC coalition figure, portraying him as a servant leader driven by service rather than desperation, unlike some politicians. 

Adichie contrasted Obi’s 2023 campaign, where he secured 6.1 million votes with a focus on youth and economic reform, with the perceived self-interest of others, implicitly critiquing President Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar. She cited Obi’s post-election restraint and coalition-building as evidence of his intent.

Adichie’s remarks align with Obi’s narrative of humility, though critics argue his ambition for 2027 undermines this claim, given his ADC alignment with Atiku. Supporters point to his governance record as Anambra governor (2006–2014), where he reduced debt by 70%, as proof of intent. 

The narrative of principled leadership resonates with his base, but political analysts suggest his success will depend on broadening northern support, a region where he won only 10% in 2023. The debate reflects Nigeria’s polarized political landscape, with Adichie’s voice amplifying Obi’s image.
