The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has expanded its train services across the country ahead of the Easter celebrations, introducing additional trips and a free ride initiative to manage the expected spike in passenger traffic.

In a statement, the corporation said the move is part of efforts to provide smoother and more accessible travel options during the busy holiday period.

A key highlight of the announcement is a special free train service on the Lagos–Osogbo route, sponsored by the Osun State Government.

The train will depart Iddo Station in Lagos on April 3, with a return trip scheduled from Osogbo on April 6.

The initiative is expected to ease travel costs for passengers while encouraging greater use of rail transport during the holiday.

More trips added across major corridors

On the Lagos–Ibadan corridor, additional trips have been scheduled to accommodate increased demand. Departures from Mobolaji Johnson Station in Ebute Metta will run multiple times throughout the day, while return services from Moniya in Ibadan will follow a similar pattern.

Other major routes, including the Abuja–Kaduna, Warri–Itakpe, and Port Harcourt–Aba lines, will maintain their regular operations, with slight adjustments to frequency in line with passenger needs.

NRC Train

The NRC advised travellers to plan their journeys early, arrive at stations ahead of departure times, and comply with all ticketing and security procedures.
