The Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation HADIN KAI has issued a heightened security advisory across the North-East following a spate of suicide bombings in Maiduguri on Monday evening.

The attacks, which targeted the Monday Market, the post office, and the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, caused casualties and underscored the continued threat posed by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

In its statement on Tuesday, the JTF urged residents to exercise heightened vigilance, noting that terrorist groups often escalate attacks during significant religious periods, particularly around the 27th and 29th days of Ramadan. Markets, mosques, motor parks, hospitals, and other areas with high human traffic are considered especially vulnerable.

Public Advised to Remain Vigilant

The JTF advised the public to remain security-conscious, particularly worshippers attending night prayers such as taraweeh and tahajjud. Cooperation with security personnel during screening and access control operations was strongly emphasised.

Members of the public were also urged to report any unattended bags, parcels, or suspicious objects immediately and to avoid overcrowded areas when possible.

Parents and guardians were advised to monitor the movements of children during evening and night hours, while community leaders, religious authorities, market associations, and transport unions were called upon to support security efforts by sensitising members and promptly reporting any suspicious activities.

“The safety of citizens remains our top priority. Operational readiness has intensified across the region, with increased patrols, surveillance, and protective measures around critical locations,” the statement added.

Increased Military Operations in Borno

The advisory follows a series of intensified military operations in Maiduguri and across Borno State. Nigerian Army units have ramped up patrols, strengthened checkpoints, and implemented protective measures around high-risk areas to curtail further attacks.

The JTF also highlighted the need for professionalism and community cooperation, stressing that successful counter-terrorism efforts rely on both security forces and the public acting in concert.

Residents were reminded to report unusual behaviour, unidentified individuals, or suspicious packages promptly, ensuring rapid intervention by authorities.

With the North-East entering a sensitive period during Ramadan, security agencies are maintaining 24-hour vigilance to protect civilians, critical infrastructure, and public spaces.

The JTF called on citizens to remain calm but alert, reinforcing that the collective efforts of communities and security personnel are crucial to preventing terrorist incidents.
