Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, successfully repelled coordinated attacks by suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in Pulka and Mandaragirau communities of Borno State, the Nigerian Army confirmed on Monday.

According to a statement from Lt. Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, the attacks occurred late Saturday, with insurgents advancing from the Sambisa Forest axis. Troops stationed in Sector 1 at Pulka engaged the attackers in intense firefights, containing and reversing the offensive.

While a section of the defensive perimeter was briefly breached, destroying some combat equipment and accommodation facilities, swift reinforcements from the 26 Brigade forced the insurgents to retreat toward the Sambisa axis.

“Credible intelligence indicates that the terrorists suffered severe casualties, including a senior commander identified as Abou Aisha, who sustained a critical gunshot injury to the neck leading to his death, alongside significant losses of weapons and equipment,” the statement said. The military reported no casualties among its personnel during the Pulka engagement.

Multi-Pronged Attack in Mandaragirau

In Mandaragirau, Sector 2 troops faced a multi-pronged attack by ISWAP fighters mounted on gun trucks and motorcycles. Prepared in advance, the troops tactically positioned combat teams and successfully repelled the assault after heavy exchanges of gunfire.

Although the location was not overrun, some soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed, while others sustaining injuries were evacuated using Army aviation assets for medical attention.

“Their sacrifice embodies the highest traditions of service, courage, and commitment to the defence of Nigeria,” the statement added, highlighting the bravery of both military personnel and civilian collaborators.

Follow-Up Operations and Strategic Impact

Follow-up operations along the Kimba axis revealed blood trails, shallow graves, and abandoned items, with eyewitnesses indicating that several injured insurgents were evacuated from the battlefield. The High Command commended the troops for their professionalism and resilience, noting that the failed attacks reflect growing pressure on terrorist groups operating in the North-East.
