Grammy-winning rapper and global music star Onika Maraj-Petty, professionally known as Nicki Minaj, has revealed why she is increasingly drawn to politics, describing it as a long-standing calling that became clearer during the last U.S. presidential campaign.
Speaking on the Katie Miller Podcast, Minaj explained that even before achieving fame, she felt destined for more than one path in life. “I had this strong premonition my whole life that I had a second job to do,” she said, emphasizing that her sense of purpose existed long before her music career took off.

The Queens-born artist said that the 2024 U.S. presidential race intensified her political interest, as she found herself reacting strongly to decisions and accurately predicting outcomes. “I was saying, ‘This is a bad idea’ or ‘This is a good idea,’ and the things I was saying were coming to fruition. It made me think, if it’s this easy, then maybe I should do it,” she noted.
Minaj further shared that a recent, undisclosed experience reinforced her political ambitions. She highlighted how challenges, resistance, and criticism can sometimes nudge individuals toward their next purpose. “Sometimes people can push you so much that they push you all the way into your next calling, your next blessing,” she added.
