The newly elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, has expressed gratitude to her colleagues for their unwavering support, assuring them of her commitment to delivering on her responsibilities.
Speaking on Friday during a courtesy visit by WOMANIFESTO, a women’s rights advocacy group, Meranda emphasized her dedication to effective leadership.
Meranda, who assumed office on January 13 following the impeachment of the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, acknowledged the significance of her position, especially as one of only four female lawmakers in the 40-member Assembly.
She urged the group to collaborate with the House in advancing women’s empowerment, stating, “If you empower a woman, you empower a nation.”
Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, the convener of WOMANIFESTO, commended Meranda’s historic emergence as the first female Speaker and pledged the group’s support in promoting policies that benefit women and girls.
Lawmaker Ganiyu Sanni (Kosofe 1) also praised Meranda’s leadership, urging the rights group to rally behind her as she steers the Assembly forward.
