Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the appointment of acting board members for the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission as part of efforts to accelerate the development of the state’s electricity market.
The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued by the governor’s special adviser on media, Suleimon Olanrewaju, and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Friday.
According to the statement, the board will oversee the regulatory commission and support its oversight responsibilities as it begins operations.
The acting board will be chaired by the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Dahud Sangodoyin.
Other members include Taiwo Ayanniyi, who will serve as secretary, while Solomon Oyekunle and Abiodun Adedoja will serve as technical and strategic members, respectively.

In addition, Omolara Omoremi has been appointed as the board’s legal adviser.
The governor explained that the appointments are temporary and intended to speed up the operational launch of the commission.
Makinde said the board would help establish the commission’s foundational regulatory systems, including licensing frameworks, compliance mechanisms, tariff oversight structures, and consumer protection policies.
According to him, the development represents a major step toward implementing the Electricity Act 2023 and the Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Law 2024.

The governor said the state law empowers Oyo State to regulate its intra-state electricity market under Nigeria’s evolving dual-tier regulatory system.
He added that decentralising electricity regulation will enable the state government to respond more quickly to service gaps, improve accountability among operators, and encourage private sector investment in local electricity solutions.
