Luka Dončić officially marked his debut for the Los Angeles Lakers in style, helping his new team cruise to a dominant 132-113 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday night.
The Slovenian superstar, acquired in one of the most stunning trades in NBA history, made his long-awaited return from injury after being sidelined with a calf issue since December. Despite limited playing time, Dončić delivered an impressive performance, scoring 14 points in just 24 minutes.
Lakers head coach J.J. Redick took a cautious approach to Dončić’s minutes, closely managing his fitness. However, with the Lakers in firm control of the game—leading 93-69 by the third quarter—the five-time All-Star wasn’t needed for extended action.
Dončić made an immediate impact, draining a deep 26-foot three-pointer in the first quarter to register his first points as a Laker. His on-court chemistry with LeBron James was evident, with the veteran superstar leading the team in scoring with 24 points.
Other key contributors to the victory included Austin Reaves, who followed up his 45-point outing on Saturday with a strong 22-point, nine-rebound performance. Lakers’ new starting center, Jaxson Hayes, was perfect from the field, scoring 12 points on six-of-six shooting. Meanwhile, Rui Hachimura added 21 points and six rebounds to the Lakers’ tally.
With the win, the Lakers improved their record to 32-19, climbing to sixth place in the Western Conference standings. On the other hand, Utah suffered another setback, dropping to 12-40 and sitting near the bottom of the standings.
The game marked an exciting new chapter for the Lakers, with Dončić’s arrival signaling their intent to compete for a deep playoff run. Fans will be eager to see how he integrates into the lineup as the season progresses.
