The Lagos State Government has cautioned Nollywood actress Sarah Martins to stop cooking and distributing food on public streets, warning that continuing the practice could lead to arrest and prosecution.

The notice came through a public statement from the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Saturday.

Wahab acknowledged Martins’ charitable intentions but emphasized that street cooking or trading on roads, walkways, or medians violates Lagos environmental and public order regulations and poses safety, sanitation, and traffic risks.

The commissioner noted that Martins had previously been warned about this issue but resumed the activity. He urged her to channel her outreach through approved locations to help vulnerable residents without breaching the law.

“While we appreciate the spirit of charity, carrying out such activities on public infrastructure is not permitted and can lead to apprehension and prosecution,” Wahab said. “If she wishes to continue her outreach, it must be done through proper channels and approved locations to ensure public safety.”

The situation also involved Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, after Martins claimed she received ₦20 million from his office to support her foundation. Seyi Tinubu clarified that the funds were raised by friends moved by compassion and stressed that he did not endorse any act violating state laws.

The government reiterated its expectation of compliance from all residents and visitors, emphasizing that Lagos operates under well-regulated civic standards.
