Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo has cemented his place in history after winning his ninth Olympic gold medal, becoming the most successful Winter Olympian of all time.
The Norwegian cross-country skier achieved the milestone at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, surpassing fellow Norwegian legends who previously held the record with eight gold medals each.
Klaebo’s ninth gold moved him ahead of former record holders, including Marit Bjoergen, Bjorn Daehlie, and Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, who each won eight Winter Olympic gold medals.
Reacting to the achievement, Klaebo described the moment as special, saying it would take time for the significance of the milestone to sink in fully. His latest victory also places him among the most decorated Olympians in history across both Winter and Summer Games.

The 29-year-old still has opportunities to increase his record, with upcoming events including the men’s team relay and the 50km classic race.
