Electricity distribution company Ikeja Electric has issued a stern warning to customers whose invoices do not include the Tax Identification Number (TIN), Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number, or National Identification Number (NIN).
In a public notice released on Wednesday, the company stated that invoices issued without the required information would be considered invalid under the Nigeria Tax Act (2025), which came into effect on January 1, 2026. The firm gave customers until February 20 to submit the necessary details to avoid disruption of the electricity supply.

The notice clarified that failure to provide one of the required identification numbers could prevent Ikeja Electric from generating electricity bills, potentially resulting in service suspension. “In line with the provisions of the Act, any invoice issued without this information is considered invalid.
Consequently, failure to provide the required details may prevent us from generating your electricity bill and could lead to the suspension of service after the stated deadline,” the company said.

Ikeja Electric urged customers to complete a submission form with at least one of the following: TIN, NIN, or CAC registration number. The directive applies to January 2026 bills and all subsequent invoices, ensuring the company remains compliant with statutory regulations while accurately reflecting billing information.
The electricity distribution firm stressed that the move is part of its effort to align operations with national tax laws and improve regulatory compliance. Customers who fail to provide the information by the February 20 deadline risk temporary disconnection until the matter is resolved.
