The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested Adam Yusuf, the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom, over an alleged N3 billion fraud linked to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin (retd.).
ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare confirmed the arrest on Friday, revealing that Yusuf had previously evaded authorities before his recent elevation to commandant.
Investigations suggest that Jibrin allegedly orchestrated the fraudulent scheme through Yusuf and retired Brigadier-General Ishaya Gangum. The scheme reportedly involved siphoning public funds through 92 fictitious companies not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The ICPC has already seized four properties connected to the fraud while legal proceedings continue to recover additional assets. Bakare added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects involved in the case.
