The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has apologised to customers for the ongoing power supply challenges affecting communities within its franchise areas.
In a statement issued in Ibadan on Saturday, the company said the disruptions were largely caused by challenges in electricity generation across the country.
IBEDC explained that shortages in gas supply to several power-generating plants had reduced electricity generation capacity nationwide, which in turn affected the amount of power available on the national grid.
According to the company, the situation has resulted in increased load shedding across the network, leaving some communities with limited electricity supply.
It also noted that electricity demand within its coverage areas has grown significantly in recent months. The rise in demand is partly linked to the addition of more Band A feeders introduced in line with regulatory directives in the power sector.

The company said fluctuations in energy allocation from the national grid have widened the gap between available electricity supply and customer demand, contributing to the current supply shortfalls.
IBEDC acknowledged that the persistent outages have created frustration among customers and affected households, businesses, and other economic activities across its franchise.
The company also noted that the situation has triggered protests in some communities within the distribution areas.
While recognising the concerns raised by customers, the electricity distributor appealed to residents to remain calm and seek dialogue rather than protests as efforts continue to address the situation.

According to the company, it has been engaging community leaders and other stakeholders to promote understanding and explore possible solutions to the power supply challenges.

IBEDC added that discussions are ongoing with relevant stakeholders across the electricity value chain to address the imbalance in energy allocation from the grid.
The company expressed optimism that ongoing engagements aimed at improving grid stability and increasing electricity supply would help ease the situation and improve service delivery to customers across its franchise areas.
