Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has formally called for the establishment of a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base within the state to enhance security measures.
The governor emphasized that such a facility would significantly bolster the state’s security infrastructure, given its strategic location and economic significance.
During a recent meeting with Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, Governor Abiodun highlighted Ogun State’s unique position, sharing borders with international frontiers and neighboring states. He noted that the presence of a NAF base would enhance surveillance capabilities, deter criminal activities, and ensure the safety of residents and businesses alike.
The governor also pointed out the state’s burgeoning industrial sector, noting that improved security infrastructure would attract further investments. He assured the Air Force of the state government’s readiness to provide necessary support, including land and logistics, to facilitate the establishment of the base.
Air Marshal Abubakar acknowledged the governor’s proposal and commended the proactive approach towards enhancing security. He assured that the NAF would conduct a thorough assessment to determine the feasibility of setting up a base in Ogun State, considering both strategic and operational factors.
