The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has entered into a strategic partnership with Flutterwave, a leading African financial technology company, to enhance and digitize tax collection processes across Nigeria. This initiative aims to improve tax compliance, streamline payment systems, and expand the government’s revenue base through a more efficient and accessible digital platform.
Under the agreement, Flutterwave will integrate its secure payment infrastructure into the FIRS system, allowing individuals and businesses to pay taxes seamlessly through multiple channels, including mobile apps, online banking, and point-of-sale terminals. This move is expected to reduce tax evasion, as digital transactions leave an electronic trail that can be tracked for compliance.
FIRS Chairman, Zacch Adedeji, stated that this collaboration aligns with the federal government’s broader financial inclusion agenda. By leveraging fintech solutions, the government aims to modernize revenue collection, making it more transparent and efficient.
Flutterwave CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, also highlighted the importance of this partnership, emphasizing how digital solutions can simplify tax payments for small businesses and individuals who previously faced difficulties navigating Nigeria’s tax system.
The partnership is expected to increase government revenue while making tax payment more convenient for Nigerians, further driving digital transformation in the country’s financial ecosystem.
