
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says electricity distribution companies generated N207.49 billion from customers in December 2025.
According to the regulator, the country’s 11 electricity distribution companies billed consumers a total of N258.66 billion during the month.
The commission disclosed the figures in its December commercial performance factsheet published on its website in Abuja.
Out of the total amount billed, the companies were able to recover N207.49 billion, leaving a revenue shortfall of about N51.17 billion.
The report indicated that the revenue realised translated to an overall collection efficiency of 80.22 percent across the 11 distribution companies operating on the national grid.

NERC also stated that the utilities received electricity valued at N309.65 billion from the grid during the same period.
However, only N258.66 billion worth of the supplied electricity was billed to customers, reflecting a billing efficiency of 83.53 percent.

The regulator further noted that the average revenue realised by the distribution companies stood at N98.97 per kilowatt-hour, compared with the approved average tariff of N124.30 per kilowatt-hour.
This placed the industry’s revenue recovery efficiency at 79.62 percent for the period under review.
A breakdown of the report showed that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest revenue collection during the month.
The company recovered N38.11 billion out of N46.68 billion billed, representing a collection efficiency of 81.64 percent.
Similarly, Ikeja Electric collected N36.20 billion from N43.41 billion billed, translating to 83.38 percent efficiency.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company recorded one of the highest efficiencies, collecting N38.01 billion from N41.41 billion billed, equivalent to 91.79 percent.
Other companies also recorded varying levels of revenue recovery. The Benin Electricity Distribution Company collected N18.38 billion from N21.53 billion billed, while the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company recovered N17.62 billion from N21.6 billion billed.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company generated N23.60 billion from N28.34 billion billed, while the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company realised N17.57 billion from N23.08 billion billed.
Further details showed that the Kano Electricity Distribution Company collected N8.98 billion out of N15.64 billion billed, while the Yola Electricity Distribution Company realised N3.55 billion from N4.25 billion billed.
The report indicated that the Jos Electricity Distribution Company recorded the lowest collection efficiency at 42.92 percent, recovering N5.43 billion from N12.67 billion billed.
NERC added that data for the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company was unavailable due to an ongoing upgrade of the company’s billing system to meet regulatory requirements.
