The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has refuted recent claims circulating in the media regarding the alleged mass denial of Canadian visas to Nigerian military personnel.

In an official statement released on Monday, DHQ described these reports as “malicious allegations” aimed at undermining the integrity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The statement emphasized that the Canadian authorities have not issued any official communication indicating a blanket refusal of visa applications from Nigerian military members. It further clarified that visa decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, considering individual merits and supporting documentation.

Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, urged the public and media outlets to disregard unfounded reports and to seek information from credible sources. He stated, “The Nigerian Armed Forces maintain a cordial relationship with the Canadian government, and there is no evidence to support these spurious claims.”

Brigadier General Gusau also called on media practitioners to uphold the ethics of journalism by verifying information before publication, to prevent the spread of misinformation that could potentially harm international relations and the morale of service members.
