Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, has defended his decision to start key players, including Cole Palmer, on the bench during the recent goalless draw against Brentford. Maresca cited the team’s congested fixture schedule as the primary reason for resting several starters.

The match saw Chelsea struggle offensively in the first half, with Brentford creating better opportunities. Recognizing the team’s lack of attacking impetus, Maresca introduced Nicolas Jackson at halftime, followed by Palmer and Pedro Neto later in the game.

These substitutions injected some energy into Chelsea’s attack, leading to improved performance and the creation of their best chances, though they ultimately failed to score.
