Boko Haram suicide bombings rock Maiduguri, Borno governor condemns attacks

Several explosions occurred in Maiduguri on Monday evening, leaving multiple residents injured and causing widespread fear across the city. The attacks, reportedly carried out by Boko Haram suicide bombers, targeted public spaces amid the holy month of Ramadan, compounding tensions in a region already grappling with insurgency-related violence.

Governor Babagana Zulum, currently performing the lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia, expressed profound sadness over the incident and condemned the bombings as cruel and cowardly. In a statement issued by his spokesman, Dauda Iliya, the governor called on residents to remain vigilant and urged heightened security measures, particularly in crowded areas such as places of worship and marketplaces.

“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” the statement read.

Authorities have confirmed that emergency services responded promptly to the blasts, with medical teams attending to the injured and security forces securing affected areas. While exact casualty figures are still being compiled, initial reports suggest several civilians sustained injuries ranging from minor to severe.
