A wave of terror swept through Tsiga town in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State as armed bandits launched a violent attack, abducting several individuals, including retired Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The incident, which occurred around midnight on Thursday, saw the heavily armed attackers storming the community, firing sporadically before forcefully gaining access to Tsiga’s residence.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants moved in large numbers, wielding dangerous weapons, and caused widespread panic among residents.
While no civilian casualties were recorded, security sources confirmed that one of the bandits was neutralized during the confrontation.
This latest attack comes amid intensified military operations in neighboring Sokoto State, where security forces have been dismantling terrorist hideouts. In response to the ongoing crackdown, the Sokoto State government recently warned border communities to remain vigilant as fleeing bandits might attempt to seek refuge in nearby states.

Ahmad Usman, Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Ahmad Aliyu, noted that the military’s efforts had been largely successful, leading to the destruction of several terrorist enclaves and the rescue of kidnapped victims. However, he warned that some of the dislodged criminals were relocating to other areas with their wounded members.
Security agencies in Katsina are now under pressure to track down the perpetrators and rescue General Tsiga and the other victims.
