Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed speculations suggesting that he is considering leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), affirming his commitment to the opposition party despite ongoing internal crises.

Atiku, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, made this clarification following rumors that he was in talks with other political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement released by his media team, Atiku emphasized that he remains a loyal member of the PDP and is focused on working towards strengthening the party ahead of future elections. “Let me state categorically that I am a proud member of the PDP. There is no truth to the claims that I am considering leaving the party for any reason,” he said.

His reaffirmation comes amid tensions within the PDP, with some members calling for leadership changes and strategic reforms to reposition the party as a formidable force against the ruling APC.

Political observers believe that Atiku, given his influence and political experience, will play a significant role in shaping the PDP’s strategy for 2027, whether as a candidate or a kingmaker within the party.
