ADC Members Initiate Legal Challenge Against Interim Executive’s Authority

 A group of African Democratic Congress (ADC) members has filed a lawsuit in the Federal High Court, Abuja, contesting the legitimacy of the party’s interim executive committee, with the case registered on July 8, 2025. 

The plaintiffs, led by a yet-to-be-named representative, argue that the interim leadership, appointed in early 2025 amid internal conflicts, lacks constitutional backing under the party’s governing documents. The suit seeks to invalidate the positions held by the interim officials, including the chairman, though specific names are withheld pending court documentation.

The complainants assert that the interim setup bypasses the required elective congress, a process mandated by ADC’s constitution, and have called for a return to elected leadership. The party’s national leadership has not yet responded officially, but the case has prompted discussions among members about governance structures. No membership figures or protest details are available at this stage, as the matter is under judicial review. The court is expected to schedule a hearing in the coming weeks, with the outcome potentially influencing the party’s direction ahead of future elections.
