The national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has congratulated former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo on the occasion of his 89th birthday, describing him as a courageous statesman who has played a defining role in Nigeria’s history.
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media adviser, Paul Mumeh, Mark said Obasanjo’s decades of service in both military and civilian leadership had left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s political development.
He described the former leader as a symbol of discipline and commitment to the country’s unity, stability, and progress.
“Obasanjo remains one of the most prominent figures in Nigeria’s national journey,” Mark said, noting that the former president’s dedication to nation-building and democratic governance continues to inspire generations of leaders.

Mark added that Obasanjo’s experience and forthright advice have continued to shape national conversations around governance and democracy.
According to him, the elder statesman’s consistent advocacy for good governance has helped strengthen democratic institutions in Nigeria and across Africa.
The ADC chairman also prayed for Obasanjo’s continued good health and wisdom, saying Nigeria and the African continent still benefit from his leadership and experience.
“On behalf of the leadership and members of the African Democratic Congress, I congratulate Obasanjo on this remarkable milestone and wish him many more years of sound health, strength, and service to humanity,” he said.
