Reverend Father Christopher Adesuwa, a Catholic priest serving in Edo State, has been released from captivity after being abducted by unknown gunmen earlier this week. Father Adesuwa, who serves at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Ikabigbo, Etsako West Local Government Area, was kidnapped while returning from a pastoral assignment.
The abduction sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting immediate action from security agencies and the church. The Edo State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, launched a manhunt to secure his release. After several days in captivity, Father Adesuwa was freed unharmed, much to the relief of his parishioners and the broader community.
The circumstances surrounding his release remain undisclosed, and it is unclear whether a ransom was paid. The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer commended the efforts of all parties involved in securing the priest’s freedom and assured the public of ongoing efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.
Kidnappings have been a growing concern in various parts of Nigeria, including Edo State. The government has reiterated its commitment to enhancing security measures to protect citizens and curb the menace of abductions.
