WASHINGTON, June 10United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has extended congratulations to Portugal on the occasion of its National Day, highlighting the longstanding friendship and growing cooperation between the two countries.

In a statement released on Wednesday to mark the Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities, Rubio praised Portugal as one of America’s earliest allies and reaffirmed the strong relationship between both nations.

“On behalf of the American people, I send warm congratulations to Portugal as you celebrate the Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities,” Rubio said.

The secretary noted that as the United States prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of its independence next month, Portugal remains one of its most enduring partners.

“As the United States prepares to commemorate 250 years of independence next month, we recognize Portugal as one of our earliest and most steadfast partners. Your support during our nation’s founding forged a friendship that has only deepened with time,” he added.
